Farm Fresh on the EGG

Farm (to EGG) to Table!

By now, most of us have heard about the farm to table movement. Broadly speaking, it refers to sourcing your food locally, often from all natural or organic growers, skipping the chain stores and pre-packaged ingredients, and preparing them fresh. But while “farm to table” is the term you may be accustomed to hearing, it leaves out that all important step that comes in between ‘farm’ and ‘table’ – namely, cooking all those amazing ingredients on your Big Green Egg!

Savor the Flavor

Pasture-raised, grass-fed meats and local produce taste better and tend to be higher quality than their industrial farm counterparts. Right now is the height of the season at your local farm, fruit stand, or farmer’s market, and we have a few ideas for how to capture those flavors at the peak of their local freshness. When you cook on a Big Green Egg, you’ll experience full-flavor cooking over live coals that are pure, all-natural carbonized hardwood. Due to the ceramic heat retention and convection capabilities of the Big Green Egg, natural flavors are locked in.

The EGG is All About Versatility

The Big Green Egg can grill, roast, smoke and bake everything that comes from the farm.  Whether you are grilling a sizzling steak or roasting fresh ears of corn, the EGG has all the capabilities to create the perfect meal for the family. With such versatility, there is almost nothing you can’t cook on the EGG!

Farm Fresh Quality

Some industrial farms use growth hormones, antibiotics, preservatives, and chemicals during the process of growing, packaging, and distributing the foods they produce. Conversely, many local farms which operate on a much smaller scale, are able to avoid these unnecessary additions by growing organic fruits and vegetables and hand raising their animals. Their animals typically are fed natural diets, not pumped full of steroids or antibiotics, and generally lead much happier lives.

Knowing where your fruits, veggies and meat comes from leads to better quality and healthier meals. Furthermore, buying locally not only supports your community, but the elimination of chemicals and shipping foods across the country also has significant benefits for the environment.

A Centuries Old Tradition

Given all of these benefits, it’s not surprising that the farm to table movement continues to grow in popularity. However, these ideas are hardly new. Using locally sourced food and cooking over live fire is a way of life that dates back centuries. Fueled by 100% natural lump charcoal, the Big Green Egg uses live fire to grill, roast, smoke and bake – just like centuries old kamado cookers. If you have taken the time and effort to source the absolute finest ingredients, then cooking them on the EGG is the natural choice!
